Indiana Jones Treasure Hunt (Part II)
(An exerpt from the Quest Adventures newsletter)

I created the entire adventure with a circular format. Each team would start at a different place in the 'cicle', make a complete rotation, then come out of it just before they would go to their first stop location. With this, I was able to allow for more teams, without having a lot of congestions at any given stop. It also made it risky to follow anyone, as each team headed off into different directions.

Once I handed out the Grail Diaries, I instructed the group to read the first page, then use any other page in the diary that they may need, that perhaps they wouldn't use all of them. Very few teams listened to these words. They read the first page, then kept reading like a book - straight through. Unfortunately for them, I put bogus instructions on page 2. Many teams drove off to this location and wasted valuable time, then kicked themselves for not reading page 1 more carefully.

For those whose first page read to see Lao Che (the Chinese art collector from The Temple of Doom), they were directed to an elementary school where they first encountered Lao's body-guard. The purpose of this character was to make sure that each team met with Lao alone. He acted in the role similar to a host at a restaurant, although staying in character.

Once directed to Lao, they sat with him at a table to have a drink and discuss business. The teams were instructed to ask him about Beloque and where he might have taken the Assistant and the idol. Before Lao would speak to them about anything, though, he insisted that they enjoy a glass of wine first. Each team member received a glass and they all took a sip. Lao then laughed and explained that their drink was poisoned (just like in the movie). He then gave them instruction on how to find Muhachi (a Chinese artifact alsoin the movie). However, they had only 10 minutes before the poison took effect (Lao timed them) to find it, using instructions from a clue he gave them. The idol was somewhere on the campus. Once the team found it and brought it back, Lao gave them directions on where their next stop would be. However, if they DID NOT recover Muhachi within the 10 minutes, the team 'died' and was disqualified right then and there. (I introduced a new element to make it more real...teams could 'die' at different stages of the adventure. If they did, as in this case, their names were written down and unable to claim any prize.) In addition to being told where to go next, Lao collected (from those who were making Lao's stop their last stop on the hunt) a bone from an archeologist dig and gave them different instructions...to go to the final destination where Beloque would be waiting for them. All others received directions to continue their hunt...to see two archeologists working in the field.

In the next installment, see how each team had to trick some gullible archeologists out of some bones...
