Example: (#22 in the Decorations & Atmosphere section of The Ultimate 1930s Archeology Themed Event)

"22 Depending on the location you are trying to recreate…make some bamboo structures. PVC piping is great for so many purposes - and it's especially useful being WHITE (you can paint it easily and cheaply)! Cut the poles your desired lengths, then paint them a yellowish tan. Once dry, about every foot or so, paint a half-centimeter wide black band around the pole to simulate the sections of the bamboo. To give more depth to the bands, paint a thin, light brown stripe right above and below the black lines (touching them.) For poles, cut the tips off at an angle to simulate spikes. If building structures with them, you can purchase joints in any size and angle needed from your local plumbing supply/super hardware store. You can also purchase some rough twine at the hardware store and tie the poles together (holes can be drilled into the poles where needed to thread the twine for added support.) If using the joints, you can also use the twine around them to simulate the look that the TWINE is holding the bamboo together rather than the joints...
