US Civil War Theme Party Ideas and Supplies

Planning a US Civil War party and looking for resources? We have what you need and MORE!

US Civil War Party Ideas

Check your local library for books on the US Civil War. These look great as table centerpieces or just propped up around your party for easy but creative party decorations.

Make a small campsite outside the entrance to your party (or even inside if you are able to!) Make sure to have a small fire ring (stones placed in a small circle.) A couple soldiers sitting around the fire finishes it off!

From AAA you can order for free (if you are a member) maps of each of the states on the East Coast that were involved in the war. These are great to hang around for decoration!

DON'T THROW AWAY THE PARTY DECORATIONS! - Save money and do something your guests will LOVE! GIVE AWAY your party decorations! Use US Civil War posters (see below for inexpensive resources) to hang around your party area. Allow the winners of different games to choose which poster they'll get to walk away with at the conclusion to the party! Combine decorations with party prizes!

Post the Yankee and Confederate flags on the wall for decoration.

Divide the party location into two halves, the North and South. You can split the decorations, theme music and other aspects to the US Civil War, too.

Visit your local library and photocopy old maps (found in their reference section.) Black and white copies can then be taken to your local print shop/copy center to have blown up to any size you want (3' x 4' feet.) When they are blown up that large, they get very 'grainy,' which a great affect for antique maps. These can then be either hung on the walls, or rolled up and placed around the party/event.

Have an entertainment center or other such 21st century items that are 'killing' the old Civil War mood you are trying to set? One word…burlap. It's cheap and it also looks great as curtains, table cloths or as simple draping to hide the abovementioned. I get mine at an army supply store.
