Create a traditional cruise walking plank up to your front door (this will be a lot easier if you have soil/dirt on both sides of the walkway leading up to the front door.) Using standard PVC pipe and joints from your local hardware store (see the plumbing section for the joints), cut pieces approximately waist high (keeping in mind your guests whether adults or children.) By connecting the pieces in with the T joints every couple of feet on both sides, you'll create a white hand railing, not unlike those found on ramps boarding cruise ships!

Cruises are known for their wonderful buffets. Provide the food for your party buffet style. As added fun, ask your guests to each bring a dish for the buffet. You can either leave it open for your guests to bring their best dish or have a theme such as "Sailing Around the World" with each guest instructed to bring a dish from another country.

Cruises are also known for entertainment. Arrange ahead of time for your guests to participate in a talent show. In the party invitations mention that you'd like to feature your guests' talent and that if they are interested in participating to let you know. Make sure to keep the acts to five minutes or less to 'keep the show rolling.'

Visit your local public library and check out different books on cruises and different exotic travel destinations. These look great as part of table centerpieces or as general decorations placed throughout your party area. They can either be laying flat or they can also be propped up in a half open fashion (remember to visit both the children's AND adult's section of the library.)

You can create a whole 'travel' vacation feel by decorating the entrance to your event or party like a travel agency or airport. Have the song 'Vacation' playing. The invitations could look like airplane tickets or travel itineraries (from a travel agency) to your port. Travel posters can also be made by blowing up tropical scenes/pictures (National Geographic magazine is an excellent source for these.) Put words on these such as "Book your flight today!"

Floating candles when night is falling looks especially nice.

Hawaiian and beach clothes are fun to wear to a luau or beach party. However, they also look great hanging on the walls! You can either hang shirts (with the hangers still in them for added support) by themselves or with a pair of beach comber pants hanging underneath.

Places like Oriental Trading Company have cheap plastic leis that you can purchase VERY inexpensively. Buy a gross of these little guys and they make great decorations to hang throughout the party or event location.
