a difficult time creating a 'jungle feel' because you don't
have any plants in the house? At your local discount fabric
store you can find fun jungle or animal prints. Find a pattern
with dense, jungle leaves and decorate the entrance to your
party with it (both sides of the entranceway.) Some green
streamers draped densely from above the door could cover the
overhead area, your fabric creates the jungle "sides."
Use green light bulbs in the area and shine them on the plants,
streamers or fabric to add to the foliage feel.
Another idea for an inexpensive jungle, get a lot of green
streamers. Try to get at least two different shades of green
and maybe one brown roll, too. Hang and droop the streamers
randomly and densely throughout the party area
just overhead. You can make green construction paper leaves
to tape to the streamers. If you have some artificial vines
and leaves, you can sprinkle these around among the streamers
you'll have the leaves of a jungle and the streamers will
"fill in" the rest of the space. Let the 'vines'
you create hang to the floor, wrap around some of the furniture,
even squiggle on the ground. As long as it doesn't look uniform
(the way normal streamers might) it will add the great jungle
colors to your event. You can also hang some in doorways as
'vines' blocking the path and your guests will have to brush
aside the vines as they walk about! Use green light bulbs
in the area and shine them on the plants, streamers or fabric
to add to the foliage feel.
a roll of thin, rustic twine to hang around your 'jungle.'
Make sure that they droop in different directions (not uniform
less they look more like streamers than 'vines.') Once secure,
these are sturdy enough to hold images of monkeys and/or bananas.
You could give your guests coloring book images of monkeys
to color while they are waiting for other guests to arrive
- or they could draw their own monkeys. It's a great way to
beef up decorations and keep your guests busy!
a bunch of copies of the character of your choice from Madagascar
and hide them throughout the party area. Beforehand, though,
write a different number (or character from the story, depending
on how many you plan on hiding.) Allow your guests the opportunity
to search for them during the party as either a casual activity
or structured game. At the end of the party, have a raffle
for a prize using either the numbers or the characters that
you wrote on the images. In this way, even those who only
found one cat will still have a chance to win the prize.
