Wizard of Oz Party Ideas

Buy a big roll of yellow wrapping paper and draw rectangular bricks on it with a permanent black marker. Unroll the paper at the entrance to your party or event - a yellow brick road to lead the way!

Stuff a pair of witch stockings with newpaper and attach red slippers to the end. Now place them flush against the building/house of your party or event such that it looks like the structure landed on the Wicked Witch of the East!

Play off the different things the main characters were 'looking for' in the story in your activities. For example, for Scarecrow's brain, give your guests a trivia quiz about the movie. For the Lion's courage, have them stick their hands in a bowl of goo while blinded folded, etc.

DON'T THROW AWAY THE PARTY DECORATIONS! - Save money and do something your guests will LOVE! GIVE AWAY your party decorations! Use Wizard of Oz posters (see below for inexpensive resources) to hang around your party area. Allow the winners of different games to choose which poster they'll get to walk away with at the conclusion to the party! Combine decorations with party prizes!

Have the soundtrack to the movie playing in the background at all times. Check your local public library for availability before purchasing it.

Check out a few copies of the book (prefereably ones with different covers) from your local library and arrange them in the center of your table as a centerpiece.

Ask each of your guests to come as their favorite character from the movie. Have a bunch of green party hats on hand for those guests that don't come in costume - they can still be a citizen of the city of Oz!
