If going for the traditional balloons and streamers, you might

them around your party/facility/event. On each of the sets,
play a different sports video or DVD. Some possible selections
to choose from might include famous sports plays (check your
local video store or library for a collection of these) as
well as inspirational sports themed movies (such as Remember
the Titans, Rudy and Hoosiers.) However, for a real fun time,
get your hands on some of the bloopers and spills DVDs from
different sporting events. Its not hard to find a collection
on DVD (again, check your local library and video store.)
These can be light hearted and sure to loosen up your
crowd for a good time. The great part about this is
that you dont even need to have the volume on (in fact,
especially for adult parties where the guests will probably
more enjoy their conversations more than the videos
your invitations to look like event tickets to a big sporting
event. In this way, it will be easy to put in the date, time
and location (being sure to include your party location as
the hosting stadium.)

your local dollar store, buy a bunch of plastic blow-up sports
balls (similar to beach balls, but in the shapes of other
sports balls such as basketballs and baseballs.) With a sharpie
market, write the instructions on them. These can either be
blown up before delivery, or deflated and allowed to be blown
up by your guests when they receive them. It definitely sets
a fun mood from the start!

After each game, award medals to the first, second and third
place winners. Using upside down totes and small boxes, create
a three tiered stage for each to winner to stand on. Cover
the three with some blue or black fabric. Remember, the one
in the middle is the highest, the one on the left is the second
highest on the one on the right (facing the winners) is on
