Western Theme Party Games and Activities

Your western theme party is going great and food is simmering. Sometimes the smell of all that BBQ will get those cowboys, cowgirls and ranch hands a might bit hungry and you’ll need something to distract them before food is served. Here are some fun western theme party games and activities to keep all that Old West fun moving’ along!

Ahead of time, spray paint many different sized rocks and gravel bits a shiny gold (make sure to use high gloss gold spray paint.) Then hide these rocks throughout a specified area, for your guests to find. The goal is NOT to find the most rocks, but rather the most gold. You see, instead of counting the rocks, have them weighed to determine the winner. This way, bigger lodes will be of more value than the little nuggets.

Order some Native American beads (try a company called Firemountain) and allow your guests to make their own Indian necklaces. Those with a crafty side to them will really enjoy the opportunity to make them – plus they make for great ‘take-away’ gifts at the conclusion of your party.

Create a maze of boxes (taping them to each other in a creative way) and call it Prospector Pete’s Mine. This single activity will amuse most young children for hours on end. No kidding. For extra fun, make some of the walls with sliding doors, cut some windows, and make some dead ends.

Set up different poker tables where your guests can gamble with poker chips, gold coins or nuggets. Start everyone out with a certain amount and the one with the most by the end of the evening wins a prize. Additionally, you could have other ways of earning/winning more coins throughout the event with games, costume contests and the like. If you’d like more than one winner, have everyone turn in whatever coins/nuggets they have at the end of the evening for raffle tickets (the more coins/nuggets they earn, the more chances they have of winning a prize).
Know anyone who could teach the group some country line dancing? If not, there are entertainment companies that offer individuals/instructors to come and teach it to guests at parties. This is a great activity that adult and child can enjoy together. If you are concerned about the participation of your guests with this activity, consider approaching some of the ‘social leaders’ on your guest list in advance to ask them to make sure they get out there to help others step up, too.

This works especially well if you’ve incorporated the collecting of poker chips throughout the event/party. Have a couple of shoot-outs during the event/party. Guests then bet on who will win the shoot-out. If you’ve opted to make the Wanted posters (as described in idea #2 in Decorations and Atmosphere), then you might include the faces of some of the characters you have involved in your shoot-outs.

Incorporating Bingo In The Classroom

A themed Bingo game can add a lot of fun and excitement to your teaching unit. With it's simple rules and timeless fun, you can easily incorporate the game by using some of the following ideas:
* Reward students by allowing them to pull a draw from a hat that they can use to mark off on their board alone (rather than calling the draws out for the whole class to hear.) In this way, a single game of Bingo can last days even weeks!
* Call out different squares to the game throughout a day or week. To keep the excitement going, at random times throughout your unit call out a single square in the game. It will keep the kids on their toes and the excitement rolling!
* Reward students with free opportunities to cross off one box of their choice (for getting an A on their test, etc.)
* Allow groups/tables of students to share the same game board to allow unity.
* Ask the students trivia in order for them to EARN a new square to be called out!
* Be careful about using online Bingo card generators as they do NOT ensure that each board will provide a unique winner (for example, you could inadvertently have TWO OR MORE winners in a single game…not ideal for Bingo.)

Incorporating Bingo in the Office

It's not always easy to create a fun work atmosphere without it impeding on work productivity. With these ideas you'll be able to engage your employees without distracting them greatly from their work!
* Release different call squares at different times throughout the day via email. This is a great way to encourage your employees to stay close to their work computers (i.e. those wandering around the office chatting will miss when the new space is called.) By sporadically announcing the spaces, you can make a single game stretch throughout an entire day or even week!
* Have a single game played throughout an entire training session (preferable for those longer sessions where it may be more challenging to maintain the attention of those attending.) Every so often call out a new square, keeping everyone alert.
* Reward your employees by allowing them to draw their own personal square to be used on their board allow. You can also reward employees by allowing them to cross off any square of their choice.
* Allow different departments (if only a few members within each department) to share the same game board. In this way, unity is built within the departments as they all realize that they will either win or lose together.
* If your workplace has an intercom system, announce the new called squares over it at different times. In this way, your fellow employees will never know when it will come!
* As a single game can be completed rather quickly, these can be great activities to facilitate during a single lunch.
* Be careful about using online Bingo card generators as they do NOT ensure that each board will provide a unique winner (for example, you could inadvertently have TWO OR MORE winners in a single game…not ideal for Bingo.)

Ways to Incorporate Bingo Into Your Party

Bingo by itself can be a fun addition to any party because of its easy to follow rules and ease of play. Themed Bingo cards make it even more fun because they can enhance the overall experience of your theme with each new square being called out. With these creative ideas, you can turn the tried and true version of Bingo play into something new and fresh!
* Have the game boards at the entrance to your party so that each guest can grab one on their way in. This will set the tone for the party that they'll be participating in on the fun!
* It's typically best to provide each guest also with a pen or pencil to mark their boards.
* Call out different squares throughout the party, keeping your party guests on their toes.
* Award different guests extra squares for winning different games you also have planned for the party.
* At a point in the party, have each guest TRADE their board with another guest!
* Ask trivia questions to your guests - correct answers are rewarded with a new square being called out or awarded.
* Pair up your guests as they play for standard rounds. In this way, your guests will have an opportunity to get to know other guests!
* Be careful about using online Bingo card generators as they do NOT ensure that each board will provide a unique winner (for example, you could inadvertently have TWO OR MORE winners in a single game…not ideal for Bingo.)
